OT: Best weather and place to raise kids on east coast?

Since it is getting nearly impossible to run a business in California, my husband I have been thinking about moving to a beach town on the east coast. Since we are both from Socal, we’re trying to find a climate that is as similar to here as possible and also conducive to raising a family. Any ideas?

My uncle lives near Myrtle Beach and loves it. Can get a little cold in the winter, but not like northeast. South Carolina is still on the East Coast. Not sure if you want to go south. Climate in SC is still temperate compare to northeast.

My cousin lives along the Jersey shore and her kids are thriving and excelling in school. But those winters are still brutal.

I’ve always been fond of the Carolina’s and think that the coast would be good with one problem. Schools don’t tend to be very good. However there are usually lots of good private schools.

While I am not a Carolina guy, I have heard Wilmington is nice though not exactly a beach town. The Carolina’s while nice tend to be pretty conservative places and Bible Belt like. If that is not your style you might feel a bit out of place.
