Illusions are always less expensive and more profitable, so the free markets will continue on.
The Romans knew that building everything of solid marble was wasteful. Build of dirt brick and cover with veneer.
Today we have stucco houses. But we don’t want plain houses so we use foam architectural details covered in stucco. Gorgeous!

Very few were disappointed that Hillary lost. While many Bernie supporters either wrote in Bernie’s name or voted for Jill Stein (including myself), a surprising number voted for Trump outright, many of them are people of color who know that the real divide is economic, not social.
After eight years of “hope and change” that brought even more wealth and power to the elite that we were fighting against in 2007-2008, people were done with the theatrics, propaganda, and empty words. We were going to have a populist president as the outcome of this general election, and there were only two choices: Bernie Sanders (the honest one with the integrity and long, consistent track record to back up what he was saying) or Donald Trump (a moronic tool of the elite who was used to “frighten” the unthinking into voting for HRC).
The DNC made their bed; now, they will have to lie in it. We warned them that this would happen.

Many of us are very surprised (and skeptical) about the vote percentages for Stein. I have a hard time believing that she got so few votes.

What matttered was the blue wall that crumbled.Hillary won Colorado and Virginia, rising states with more college graduates.
White non college folks in PA, MI, WI made the difference. We’ll see if hopy changy works for them. This is the end of the line. I hope we don’t hear more bitching from them after this.
I blame Blacks for not turning out also but they historically haven’t, other than for Obama.

Another bog I participate on , which is well represented with posters from around the nation did a poll. Stein got about 3 of 200 votes. Mostly white males in the group as it’s a sports thing. Hillary won though, which was surprising.

He didn’t do particularly well yesterday eitherI was very surprised by Teachout’s loss. Not sure what happened there, as she has a tremendous reputation and is far more likely to “drain the swamp” than Trump would be.
The pharmaceutical industry threw a lot of money at opposing Prop 61. That being said, I spoke with an attorney — a very liberal/progressive person — who manages claims at the VA, and she said that Prop 61 could just as likely raise prices at the VA, so that would have forced the govt to pay more there, and forced regular patients to pay more, too (but maybe less than now?). I voted for it, but know that it wasn’t as clear-cut as some might think.
October 29, 2018 at 1:13 PM #811130GuestMy new favorite economist is Jeffrey Sachs. He was an economic advisor to Bernie Sanders. His views are very reasonable.
Donald Trump would agree that he has the looks a demeanor of a thinker and honorable person.
Bernie was against TPP as a populist argument. But Jeffreys Sachs supports free trade and he explains it very well. Trade enlarges the econmic pie which is a win win. It’s up to us what we do with the pie. China and Mexico are not the problem.
Jeff Sachs, said we lost our way and need to change. That’s a very complex message to sell to the American public.
