Had the same problem and called an exterminator. They said that the swarm would be gone by the next day, and sure enough, they were right. Since they don’t have a hive they aren’t very aggressive – I walked out of my garage right into the swarm and nothing happened.

Come to think about it, I guess you could do that with anything, surprised I haven’t seen somebody giving their significant other away on craigslist.

Swarms could turn into hives and depending on proximity to house, it could be a problem. Bees are good for your yard, pollinating, etc so I didn’t want to kill them. I had a guy come out and take them away. I can’t remember the name now, but you’ll find many on CL

Make me an offer.

June 22, 2012 at 10:48 PM #746293RhettParticipantA day late and perhaps a dollar short, but more often than not the swarm in your backyard is simply resting, and will move on within a day.
June 23, 2012 at 8:10 PM #746339AnonymousGuestIs it me or are we seeing more bees now? 10 years ago it seemed that all the bees were dying but lately I’ve had to get a hive removed every two years (waiting 2 days to confirm the swarm decided this was a great place to make a new home).
June 24, 2012 at 1:10 PM #746360RhettParticipantI’ve noticed more bee swarms that I’ve encountered while driving our local highways (5, 805, 52, 56 in my case). I read that they’ve rebounded somewhat from the mysterious colony collapse, but there probably are other factors that have attracted them to the area.
June 24, 2012 at 8:16 PM #746374svelteParticipantIt has been a heavy year for bees. I went through a swarm so thick on I15 a few weeks back that I thought it was raining, so many of them were getting plastered to my windshield so fast that it sounded like raindrops…

We’re lucky that there is a bee keeper down the street form us with a hive. Those little buggers do an awesome job of fertilizing our garden. We get an amazing amount of produce.
