yes I am…
But so are you Brian, just in a different way. Before you deny it, just remember. Alcoholics are the first ones to deny they have a drinking problem.
imho an elistist is:
Feeling/impression/etc that you are somehow better than some other people and/or a reflection of your attitude toward others with different opinions/viewpoints that doesn’t jive with your own belief system in thinking that somehow they are idiots/lesser capable/lesser “refined” than oneself.May 25, 2012 at 11:14 AM #744358CoronitaParticipant[quote=flu]yes I am…

May 25, 2012 at 11:53 AM #744360briansd1Guestflu, the Lake Wobegon effect affects the majority of people.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Illusory_superiorityDoes believing that your kids are cuter than other kids make you snobbish/elitist?
I wonder if it’s possible to be elitist if you don’t have the income that puts you in the statistical elite. Does the income data speak for itself or not?
Is elitism an illusory state of mind, or does it depend on a hard foundation of income, education, job, etc…
All interesting questions, huh?
btw, flu, I don’t think that I’m “better” than women. I actually believe many women have it easier than most of us, men.
Conservatives and religious people base their views on faith and tradition; they have yet to show me the rational basis/data behind their views. I don’t think that I’m “better” than them, just more rational.

Scaredy: Not only that, but you’re capable of incredible feats of strength.
So you got that going for you…

Which brings up an another interesting question.
What is more important? Intense individualism or community? Are communities automatically enhanced by the relentless pursuit of individual benefits?
May 25, 2012 at 2:46 PM #744370desmondParticipantYou can think to yourself and write all you want on a blog, it is when you are interacting with others that will determine if you are a snob or not. B ri gets his point accross on many things here, the one he highlights most often is the weight of others. But I seriously doubt that when B ri is out walking down the city streets in SD with elan, he makes anybody that is “overweight” feel as though they are “overweight”. And flu, you are no snob, you go out of your way not to make people feel bad, even if you kinda want to.

May 25, 2012 at 8:03 PM #744377scaredyclassicParticipantI wouldnt say I’m better but I am definitely luckier.
I do think I’m better than most people in some very narrow areas.
For instance I took an aptitude test at a very expensive fancy national company through a grant in high school. I learned that my ability to file and sort is literally off the chart. I’m like an Einstein of filing abilities.
Perhaps I couldve been king of the post office.
It’s very likely that my sorting abilities make yours look puny and pathetic. Maybe I am better than you all. You people probably can’t alphabetize at computerlike speeds. Gosh. I am glad I am so gifted.

scaredy, you’ve met your match. I CAN, too! Even at this late date (I’m not dead, yet) … must be a trait of longtime gubment workers, lol ….
May 26, 2012 at 1:56 AM #744389paramountParticipantI think one of the strongest of all human desires is to feel superior to others.
And certainly ‘snobbery’ can be an outgrowth of that desire.
Marketers understand this concept very well.
May 26, 2012 at 7:14 AM #744392NotCrankyParticipantNeither and both.
