While flipping the pages of a local r.e. ad mag, i saw a REALTOR assoc. ad thatr ead something like: “8 out of 10 economists believe house prices will rise int he next 2 years–and the other two are life-long pessimists.”
the ad kind of irritated me, for several reasons. One, who the hell cares whether an economist is an optimist or a pessimist. Shouldn’t it be based on some sort of objective (if b.s.) economic analysis. we don’t say, 8 of 10 doctors think this operation will work, and the other two are lifelong pessimists. hell, i’d prefer a doctor who looks on the downside, instills caution, doesn’t mean the guy wont operate or think it can work.
2nd, is this true? Do they poll “economists”? who qualifies as an “economist?
Ads like this should be federally regulated, like cigarette advertising…
