I don’t think so. On the contrary, quite a few of people prefer single story. It “lives” more spacious than 2 story which waste more space with stairs and hallways. I like the layouts for single story better.
Now, of course, age and the upgrades and shape the house is in will matter. Often enough single story are older. But more people will reject a house based on age than on 1 vs 2 story per se.

March 3, 2011 at 9:57 AM #673890briansd1GuestI have a 3 story + basement townhouse in Philly. It’s great excercise. You won’t get fat. Something to consider.
But I think that 1-story houses are better for resale especially as the population ages. 1-story houses are not being built much in California anymore.

March 3, 2011 at 10:10 AM #673900NotCrankyParticipantFor the first year of our first child we had a two story and I wouldn’t choose that if there are good options. I have always liked being on the same floor with our young children all the time. I still like it as they grow up. I can also see where some separation of child from common areas, aided by two floors, could have some benefits as they get to be teenagers.
