She is far from being a free-loader. She worked hard during the marriage. I just don't want a majority of the assets going to her and her new companion who she cares for more than me at this time.
Sorry to hear that. I think you're taking to first steps to deal with the situation. I'm no expert in this regards, but have you considered talking to a divorce lawyer first? Perhaps they could offer you more advice than anyone one of us.

I assume that a plaintiff can get a court order to see if there’s valuables in the box. Most people hide jewelry and valuables in safe deposit boxes. You’d be better off stashing gold in the walls of your house.
