Overpriced and Overrated
Is how I describe Newport Beach and coastal OC/San Diego. I do not understand why anyone would pay this much when it is possible to buy ocean front places in the Caribean or South America for half as much money. Think about it: you can afford half a million and have half a million in the bank why not do this? I guess that Americans are fixed in belief that the USA is the best place to live on the planet.

January 21, 2007 at 3:45 PM #43916Cow_tippingParticipantI believe Liareah owns a bunch of condos in south FL. I believe he will not for an instant hesitate to throw any other part of the country under a bus. Needless to say, he hasn’t figured out that the markets are all inter related cos its all over inflated.
Cool.

My source is my title rep for First American. The data is from their list of customers. I’ll try to get specifics from him this week. Will post the results.

__________________________But where are you going to work? And what kind of $$ will you make? What about cost of living? (How about those $8 glasses of OJ in the islands?) Quality of healthcare? How often will you see friends and family if you move to South America? The list goes on and on. Simply not a great option for most folks.
January 22, 2007 at 1:12 PM #43937PerryChaseParticipantIf your goal is oceanfront property you can find great beach/island properties in Thailand, Malaysia, even Vietnam for the cost of a new car. Remember China Beach?
A couple of years ago I stayed in a beach hut(with A/C but no hot water) in Malaysia. I had the whole beach to myself. Rent was $10 per day, $20 with A/C. I ate and shopped at the local village. There was no Internet and no land lines but the cell phone and SMS worked. There was nothing to do except relax and go jungle trekking or fishing.
Why buy when you can rent?
January 22, 2007 at 1:21 PM #43939Cow_tippingParticipantMalaysia and Indonesia and some of those south pacific countries are just about modern enough and still un touched by the McDonalds (Or just the donald’s) … its a refreshingly rustic paradise. I have also heard the same about Sri lanka, Fuji etc.
India (my old home) is one of those countries where if you had that initial capital to launch your life of cushy comfort, you’d not have to worry about much. I know of younger people who sock away 30-40K USD and go back home and buy up large houses and get jobs in IT or somehting and just live in great luxury.
Cool.

Based on your moniker …
I would have thought you were from the midwest where cow-tipping is a pre-teen or teenage “sport” or right of passage. But now that you’ve revealed that you use to live in India … it provides a completely different perspective. -
