I’d bet that there are nuclear weapons on CA soil, possibly controlled by people whose loyalties would be divided. Not to mention the ability to purchase such if it really came down to it.

Well, you have the boomer base at Point Loma and “specials” stored at NAS North Island, so, theoretically speaking, you definitely could make the case that some USN Captain loses his shit and fires off a nuke. But to where? You’re thinking DC, I presume?
