Brian: Here’s the problem: You’re getting “God” mixed up with “Religion”. Religiosity and Spirituality are two very different things. I don’t think of God as some Monty Python-esque cartoon figure who lives in the sky.
That’s a very good picture in the sky that you’re drawing. I couldn’t have said it better myself. π
You make a very good point about God and Religion. It’s like the conservative and Republican thing. But it’s hard not to draw the parallel especially in a blog format where you can only write a few sentences.
If you were to look at various men of science, including Einstein, Pascal and Descartes, I think you’d be surprised at the level of spirituality (as distinct from religiosity) present.

When you impugn your evangelical “Kansans”, make sure you don’t toss those of us who are part of the very foundation of Western reason, science and philosophy under the bus, too.
I strive to be cartesian, empirical, reasonable and pragmatic myself.
May God bless those men of science for bringing reason to us.

Participant
Global capitalism has been the national religion of the US for some time now and the policy makers are fundamentalists.
Arraya, you’re forgetting about the die-hard environmentalists. THAT is a religion.
And Brian, you can’t possibly think that just because a fetus isn’t born it has no feelings. How about babies that are born prematurely- do they have feelings?

I don’t believe that there’s any legal abortion after a fetus a viable outside the womb.
Regardless, feelings or the lack of feelings, have nothing to do with this.
People are entitled to do what is legal, and not be undisturbed in that legal activity. If you don’t like it, tough luck.
There are lots of things that I don’t like. I just have to learn to live with them.
fredo4, since you bring up environmentalism, the environmentalists who chain themselves to trees are nuts like people who block access to abortion clinics.
People have the right to cut their trees. If you don’t like it, pay them. Or change the laws.
