I think that the Peace Prize was given to Obama for who he is, what he represents and what he’s done.
Let see..
Who he is – first US black president.
What he represents – demonstrates that a black person in the US could become president (even with some radical ideology behind him)
What he has done – really nothing (voted present most of the time while in the senate), he was nominated just a few weeks into his term. He has continued many of the policies that Bush left behind, that the Democrats were assailing, but those same policies are supported by the Democrats now Obama is in office. This breaks down to being nominated for the first US black president and that he demonstrates that a black person in the US could become president. Its not a bad thing, but really not worthy of a Noble peace prize.

OT, but will address: Our soldiers are also able to mingle with the local population. As a matter of fact, one of the members of the local population warned a base that Al Qaida was planning an attack on the base (This was on one of the more recent attacks). The reason for the barricade is because Al Qaida member are willing to blow themselves up to achieve the goal and don’t care about civilian casualties. This is not a point of view shared by the Viet Cong.

What he has done – really nothing (voted present most of the time while in the senate)[/quote]That is factually incorrect, and a distortion of the facts.
Obama voted yea or nay while in the US Senate, just like the other US Senators.
The tradition in the Illinois legislature is to vote present on bills legislators did not want to vote yes on, but were not necessarily absolutely opposed to.
