No, Breeze, I was making the point that even the decision to close Gitmo (which I agree with) is fraught with peril.
You’re out of your tree if you think Obama is going to break al-Qaeda. Killing or capturing Osama bin Laden (and I’m fairly certain he’s dead already) won’t affect this group one iota. Do you know what al-Qaeda means? It means the “database” (loosely translated). These groups are run nearly like franchises and completely compartmentalized. They’re well organized and well financed and, as socratt points, completely dedicated to the cause.
Obama could commit another 50,000 US troops to Afghanistan and still not solve the problem. Look at what happened to the Soviets.
If you think that Obama is possessed of some magical silver bullets that are going to solve this problem, well, History has a really big surprise for you. This is a GENERATIONAL war against a foe far more determined than we give them credit for.
