Not correct. Radar/Laser detectors are legal in CA.
http://www.escortradar.com/faq.php#legalRadar jammers and laser shifters however are not. If you don’t know the what these things are, never mind, and you don’t want to get caught using one (which would be detectable).
Brands of quality include Valentine 1 and Escort (http://www.escortradar.com/ http://www.valentine1.com/)..
Frankly, these detectors have limited use imho. Also getting pulled over with a laser/radar detector (though legal) makes for interesting conversations with the police officer if you know what I mean. You’re better off not using one (or installing it in a inconspicuous place).
Dont like getting tickets, don’t drive above the speed limit or flow of traffic, don’t drive shotgun. Pace the car in front of you in the left lane and have a car behind you and let them eat the ticket. Speeding tickets going +10mph can cost you around $300+ these days.

May 28, 2009 at 9:39 PM #406970NeetaTParticipantThe radar detector is made by “Rocky Mountain” and I am a proud user of it. The company claims that it can scramble the police radar, but I can’t prove that. All I know is that it does detect the police radar so far in advance that I don’t see how they can get me. I bought the device because I drive a “Carrera S” and feel that I have the right to drive fast given certain safe situations like driving on open highways in the desert. What is the point in spending all that money on a car if you can’t enjoy it? Believe me, I normally drive the speed limit or just slightly above as do most people. It’s all about money not safety when it comes to issuing tickets.

May 28, 2009 at 10:27 PM #407000temeculaguyParticipantThe point of driving a porsche is not to drive fast, but to get certain types of women to sleep with you on occassion. Have I taught you nothing, why do I slave over a hot keyboard?
Feeling you have the right to do something isn’t always enough justification when you share that road with others. If you can prove that nobody driving fast in a sports car on an open highway or in the desert has ever killed another person, then I will support your right to selectively follow laws.
