BG, if we stay on the public track we are looking at Grant for K-8 and then onto Point Loma High unless we could get an inter-district transfer to La Jolla High or our kid wins the lottery system and gets into High Tech High. We are very happy that Grant is now K-8. Point Loma High seems fine as well although I am somewhat concerned about the lack of AP Calculus. Our school options are looking pretty good. If I was buying in North Park I would be more concerned.
Excellent, pemeliza. Somehow, I percieved you to be retired and didn’t realize you have child(ren) approaching school age. My former colleague-homeowners in MH (now retired) sent their kids to Mission Bay and San Diego High Schools. At that time (early/mid nineties), the choices for MH residents were SDHS or MBHS. Perhaps Pt Loma will offer AP calculus again by the time your student is a jr/sr. SDHS has a rigorous International Baccelaureate program but your student will have to sign a contract and keep up with its many “project” demands. My understanding is that it is easy to “choice” into SDHS but its IB program is very, very challenging.
North Park is served by Hoover HS (or “choice” into SDHS). Many families living in North Park send their children to Catholic HS. I have lost more than a few neighbors here in Chula Vista to North Park when their children approached HS age, as they wanted to be in close proximity to OLP (girls) and St Augustine (boys) HS’s in Normal Heights and North Park, respectively.
