I agree….I think one of the best areas with great schools is Rancho Penasquitos. Great location, homes with and without mello-roos…variety of different home prices.
Tons of kids…lots of families. Carmel Valley is great too…just more expensive.July 19, 2007 at 11:35 PM #66634gracieParticipantI agree….I think one of the best areas with great schools is Rancho Penasquitos. Great location, homes with and without mello-roos…variety of different home prices.

You might find that your prospects are twice as good. Waiting only a year from now will allow you to view any repercussions from a glut of subprime mortgage resets that are due to occur (red line vs. blue line):
[img_assist|nid=3953|title=|desc=|link=node|align=left|width=466|height=305] Besides, if you rent in a particular area it will give you first-hand knowledge of the schools and overall feel of the neighborhood…without having to make a large investment like you would if you'd purchased.

Lots of Asians of different backgrounds (Philipino, Chinese, Japanese), Indian, Latinos and Blacks live here. We also have a large contingent of illegal and legal migrant workers in this area (the canyon provides great cover). Makes for a very worldly view for my kids. They have a cricket league that plays near the baseball fields here at Canyonside park, it is interesting to watch that. Tai-Chi is also taught at our local park, our multi-cultural festivals at school are filled with tastes and sounds of the world…You should check it out! There are not many homes here over 3,000 square feet (maybe 10%), but there are some. Prices for those are around $1 million.

I will give you an amen on the high school and it’s academic perfomance, with an API well over 800 it is one of the best performing public schools you can send your kids to. But this thread started with a desire to find racial and socioeconomic diversity in a school that the original poster was looking for. If that truly is what she wants, she may feel good about hearing things are diverse and be able to rationalize her idealism but you really need to look at the facts. Taking westview high since it was mentioned I analyzed the data. Look at the numbers, this school does well for a variety of reasons but it benefits from socioeconomic advantage and it does not mirror the county demographics. Facts are facts, it is almost exclusively a white and asian school in a county that is not. African American and Hispanic 15-17 year olds make up half of the 15-17 year olds in San Diego County, yet combined they make up less than 10% of the student population at this school and most of the other Poway Schools. Only 89 students are considered poor (read free lunch program) a comparison of Chula Vista High 1163 of the 1894 students were considered poor which is 10x the percentage of this school. The stats below pulled from the state and county websites. If the question here was can I send my kid to school with rich white and asian kids, then you found it, but that was not her question. I don’t know if it is possible to find what she is looking for but this isn’t it.
Westview high’s 1584 students that took the 2006 API according to the state department of education
Over 1300 of those students are white, asian or filipino.African American (not of Hispanic origin) 46
American Indian or Alaska Native 4
Asian 331
Filipino 153
Hispanic or Latino 109
Pacific Islander 12
White (not of Hispanic origin) 881
Socioeconomically Disadvantaged 89Countywide stats from SANDAG by race for 15-17 year olds
African American 8,421
American Indian 716
Asian, pac islander and filipino combined 11,886
white 53,916

Do you understand what is happening with the easy credit that has been driving the bubble for the past 5 years and what impact that will have on RE prices in the next several years??
Hope you don’t have to move or lose a job. If you are employed in the Real Estate industry, find another job fast.
