Genetics and lifestyle, combined, pops into my head. I’ve known people who naturally looked great when they were younger, but did not take care of themselves as far as lifestyle–so they aged very badly.
Illness and extreme stress through job loss, as well as personal and financial issues, etc. can also contribute to the decline of a person’s physical appearance.
Although it’s very prevalent in our area of North County (and in many of the other “hot spots” mentioned) we, and most of our friends are not into “having work done,” so we try to stay on top of things through lifestyle, etc., and, so far, it’s working out well.
October 24, 2014 at 4:45 PM #779433FlyerInHiGuestA clean lifestyle is best, of course. But nothing to be embarrassed about getting work done. It depends what is done and how it was done.
Getting age spots and freckles removed is child’s play with laser. Reducing acne scaring is easy.
My uncle, at age 70+ got his droopy eyelids lids lifted. Made him look healthier and took away the fatigued look.
liposuction is actually highly recommended for people who can’t lose weight.
I’ve never had any work done, but I’ve been to clinics with people who have. Not a big deal. I will do it when time comes.

Completely agree concerning all of the issues you mentioned. I was actually referring to the fact that we’ve never had any major elective reconstructive surgery, because we don’t feel we have any reason to do so–at least not at this point in time. We completely respect anyone who makes that choice, and, who knows, we may change our minds someday as well.

Most my kids parents are younger, so I was meeting them and seeing them taking kids to kindergarten when they were 30-35ish. They looked so great.
7 years has knocked quite a bit off. Not saying people turned ugly like Dorian Grey. A lot of people are holding it together , but peaking in poise and beauty at 30 and showing signs of having been on the downward slide for several years at 40 is scary. It does happen faster with poor people in general but these aren’t poor people and it’s getting them.
Some pretty drastic cases even when there is no weight gain.
Hormones are the downfall of men as well . For blue collar working men it can shorten their ability to make a living. I think that should wipe out any stay at
Nothing kills beauty like changing hormones. Yes, it can affect women in their late 30s and early 40s. Lucky us. :(
Hormones are the downfall of men as well. She does pay him for that…by being a SAH wife and taking care of everything in the home.

At least that’s what my mom told me. That and “kissed by the sun”.October 25, 2014 at 2:33 PM #779511NotCrankyParticipantLast night was a big social event , it was very interesting going with my consciousness sort of in an altered state with all these threads we have been having lately.
Anyone else have the same thing?
I have always kind of thought that if you saw a man at a casual event with jeans that are just a little different than any others you normally see and he wears hard black fairly dressy loafers he was the rich one in the crowd. I saw some of that.
Which one of you is that guy?I really favor the looks of females, I think what most people consider to be average women to be quite attractive, so most couples to me seem to have a better looking female partner not an equal one. I could see a few cases where even the kids got the good looks from the dad.
I was alone and that got that hackles up on one guy who’s wife I was talking to. They went away for a minute and came back with him smiling and calm so I think they talked. It is an interesting dance we do. Best looking couple at the event IMO.

I’m one of those faerie shrimp that can hibernate for years and then comes to life in vernal pools of rain.

I guess we see things differently.
My observation is that when age sets in, beginning in the 30s, men stay more attractive than their wives, eg George H W Bush vs. Barbara Bush.
I favor the Euro look. I like casual dress pants over jeans with sport shoes. Jeans fabric is kinda tough and less comfortable. I favor running Adidas because they are better for my posture. No Nike.
The expensive leather loafers, especially the pointy ones make you looks like a sleazy salesman or something.
