I searched under “just listed” in my fair town (using the coldwell banker cbmove.com website – pretty good realtor site) and I saw in the first two, and most expensive, listings that showed up a couple things a just had to share with someone.
Listing A – MLS – AX6238082 – a 7 bedroom, 7.3 bath $4,489,000 baby that features: “Exquisite new home with historic style of Normal Rockwell features over 10,000 sq feet of living space on 4 luxury levels! …”
I could excuse the “Normal” Rockwell reference as just a typo (L is kinda near N, I guess) if it wasn’t in a listing for a $4.5 MILLION home !!!! — But, secondly — a spectacular 7 bedroom manse like this one is hardly the stuff of Norman Rockwell at all — he painted charming, down-home scenes of regular folks at the barber shop, fishing hole or little league baseball game. This house is lovely, and in a great area, but it is anything but Rockwellesque. Listing also is a little confusing saying it’s a new home, but having year-built as “1950” in the stats section.
NO! It’s “Palladian” (as in the style of Italian architect Palladio – a favorite of Thomas Jefferson) – not the “Palladium” – a popular NYC club circa 1980.
I don’t expect everyone to know these details, and I know typos and slips of the mind happen — but THESE ARE MULTI-MILLION DOLLAR HOMES that you’re trying to sell in a slow market, people. I swear to God – if I was selling a product that might generate anywhere from a $120,000 to $250,000 in fees in the transaction, I would proofread and know what the hell I was talking about.
Sorry to vent – but I just had to share this with someone.
Who cares about Real Estate? Let’s bring back the Palladium. I have many fond and foggy memories of late nights at the Palladium. Thanks for bringing back some lost memories!
Though, of course, if the windows really were Palladium, the cost would be much higher 😉
I get a kick out of the listings descriptions too – my favourites are where the writer waxes lyrical about the front door, landscaping, etc, then hits return before finishing the blurb, often with hilarious consequences.
Although, for sheer bad spelling, a recent listing described the ‘enetry way’ in glowing terms. Then, just for good measure, described it as an ‘enetry way’ two more times in the blurb…..
My favorite was a listing in Walnut, CA which the agent described as having been “grately reduced.”
Now, was that the fireplace grate she was reducing – or the cheese grater?
MLS can’t have spellcheck with these kinds of blatant non-words slipping in. As for the mansion above, William Randolph Hearst yes, “Normal” Rockwell no.
