    I’m curious. If someone pay cash for a house like this & then spend some money fixing it up. After doing that, can he/she get a mortgage on the house ?

    I asked my bank just recently the same question and the answer is that you can get a mortgage 6 months later, the interest may be a little higher than for a regular mortgage and the max. amount is 80% of the equity.

    Usually contractors buy this kind of broken house, fix it and resale it. The cost for them to fix the broken house is much cheaper than regular buyer who calls workers to fix it. Material is cheap ! only labour cost is high.

    The methane gas from the ground is everywhere, if you sleep on the groud everyday, you will have problem too.
