I’d be giving you the look walking that dog in my neighborhood too. And there’s nothing you can do that would change my mind about your dog either except getting rid of it. My kids aren’t experiments to test how good you think your special dog is. Sorry, this is what you signed up for when you chose to get that dog. There are plenty of breeds out there to choose from. I’d be giving you that look with any large dog that appeared out of control or aggressive in any way. But obviously I’m more cautious around PBs and Rotts for obvious reasons and why should you expect other people to assume your dog special?
Any dog owner who thinks that THEIR dog would never hurt a fly is lying. Dogs are animals and any good dog owner knows this. While they may act one way 99.9% of the time there’s always that .1% when they can do something totally out of character and unexpected. My 12-year-old niece was just bit last weekend by one of those sweet, unsuspecting yellow labs who the owners described as “just a big friendly puppy who wants to play”. She was running down the sidewalk and passed the dog, who was sitting in his yard, unleashed, and he decided to chase her down and bite her. Awwww, he just wanted to play!

June 1, 2010 at 8:54 PM #558223AnonymousGuestThey have a bad rep because of terrible owners – here’s my current situation and if there are any pig lawyers out there that could help (paid of course) or if anyone knows of a lawyer that has expertise in this area please PM me.
My neighbors – who are physically disabled – have 2 pit bulls. I was walking my dog and one of their pit bulls decided to snack on my dogs neck. Luckily only one dog got lose as I was able to pry my dog out of its mouth then wrestle it to the ground but both me and my dog sustained some minor bites. Worse part is that the neighbor couldn’t help control the animal and my wife had to leave our 2 month old in the hose then go around the neighborhood to find some rope to tie the dog up.
It could have been worse – I could have been my wife who used to walk our dog and/or with our child.
Neither she nor I feel comfortable with her walking our dog as we don’t trust that our neighbors can control their dogs. Worse is when she lets the dog in the back these pit bulls attack the fence. It’s only going to hold for so long. Heck I have 2 ft 3/4 in steel pipe stashed in a couple places in case things go bad, but I am worried for the kids in the neighborhood, other dogs, or even the mail carrier. These people don’t seem careful enough to check their doors or the stability of the fence keeping the dogs from getting loose.
Animal control can’t do much, I’ve already had the head of dangerous animals call me. We’ve filed charges, but there is nothing we can do to force them to lose the dogs.
I am an animal advocate, but sh*tty owners make me like pit bulls less. I do blame them and not the dogs, but that doesn’t make me feel safer.
sorry for thread jacking, but if anyone can help or knows someone that can please PM me. And this also gives a ‘victims’ perspective.
