NC for a Yuppie

I’m a young professional who works out of the RB area. I’ve been renting in 4S and an looking to buy a condo/townhouse in the RB/PQ/CM/SS area. I was hoping to get some insight on what would be an ideal location for myself.

There are couple of reasons why I have narrowed down on the 56/15 intersection.

1. I lived and worked in LA with an hour commute each way each day. I want to spoil myself.
2. For a relatively young yuppie, I feel pretty old. It doesn’t interest me to be in the hustle and bustle of SD metro. I spend a lot more time working than I do playing.
3. I love LA and like like easily I can shoot up the 15 to go back. I avoid the 5 like crazy.
4. I like living near the freeway. Being far away from it annoys me!
5. It’s so pretty.

I’ve been trying to stick to $200k if possible, up to $300k if a must. Sabre Springs has really peaked my interest as of lately. It seems like a younger crowd but is close enough to CM/MM if I want to do some shopping – and I can easily reach the freeway to go downtown if I really want to.

I will also be wanting to rent out a second room to someone similar to myself, and feel that SS is a better option for that reason.

RB is nice, but there a are a lot of older people. I’m not interested in having my neighbor be my grandma. CM is nice also, but there appears to be many apartment-like condos which don’t interest me as much. PQ is so large and varied that I don’t know where to start. I considered MM but I’ve heard stories about the traffic.

So I’m leaning towards Sabre Springs right now. Good choice, or not?

I guess it is okay. I am not sure that SS has alot of young yuppies like you are saying but it may not be bad for you. There are a fair share of engineers that rent in SS and the likes who work at some of the larger firms like Broadcom up in RB. If you have rented in 4S for awhile it sounds like you know the area fairly well. Also you definitely will not be surrounded by college students like you would be if you got a place in UTC. You can also find places in the 200-300k range like you are looking for but I am not a huge fan of renting a room out of my own home out of necessity to pay the mortgage. Seems like that can end badly. Unless you are doing it right now it is a change of lifestyle that most often does not end well according to what I have heard. You may want to consider Scripps as well. For what you are looking for PQ is not that large. It is varied though.

Anyways I think it is a fair enough choice. If you wait awhile you may be able to catch some better pricing.

I wanted to position myself in a place where I can still financially make the mortage+tax+HOA/etc if needed but if I rent out the other room I am paying closer to what I am currently paying for rent.

Since work from sun up to sun down most days, I wont be there to be as annoyed by any roommate. If I found someone who is barely there, of course that would be the ideal situation!
