Why stop at real estate Brian? It is clearly your opinion that govt can run many essential functions with much “less margin” correct? If you feel the govt can do a better job lending, health care, running auto companies…etc… why stop there?

February 25, 2010 at 10:27 PM #518053briansd1GuestThat is incorrect SD Realtor. In response to AN, I said that if the government left RE to market forces, the margins would be much thinner and the real estate folks would make much less money.
That should be a position that Republicans should support, I would think.
I believe that government action is necessary at times, when appropriate, because the government can do certain things very well (like health care).
Conservatives are the ones who claim that the government should get out of way. But they don’t really mean it.

February 25, 2010 at 10:45 PM #518638SD RealtorParticipantOkay thank you for the correction.
For the record, real estate is one of the most socialized programs if not the most.
If the govt would butt out then the market itself would be substantially healthier with much lower pricing. I could not agree more. If there was a blanket policy that everyone had to come up with 20% down we would be in a much much better spot.
I do believe that veterans should be granted an easier path because of the sacrifice they make for the country. So I am in favor of 100% financing for Vets.
However everyone else, tough beans. My apologies for misreading your post.
