My rent has gone up $0 for three years.
Why would I want to buy again?

So you can get out of La Mesa?
September 1, 2007 at 8:16 AM #82923MANmomParticipantWe’re going into our 5th year with no rent increase…what a no-brainer!

So you would need to buy in order to do that??? Don’t be a freaking moron.
September 1, 2007 at 11:29 AM #82948blahblahblahParticipantI’m assuming you’re being facetious when you complain about a $30/month rent increase. If your rent is $1500/mo that’s a 2% increase, less than real inflation. If your rent is $1000/mo that’s still only a 3% increase! Sounds like you’re getting a bargain to me…

Was that a friend of the family that got you that deal. If you ever plan on leaving post it and I’ll take that in a heartbeat.
September 1, 2007 at 12:36 PM #82956greekfireParticipantNo, the owners are not friends or family members. They are a nice older couple (60s) that bought back in the early 90s…so they don’t have a big mortgage payment I assume.
We actually just stumbled upon it. The place was really neglected (another reason for the lower rent) and we have put a lot of effort into fixing it up since we’ve moved in. I don’t mind fixing things up and the owner pays me a bit for my time and the cost of materials. It is a win-win for both of us.
We are locked in until late 2009 with an option for 2010. We are hoping that the market will be right for us to buy late next year. If it’s not, we’ll probably stay another year. I will definitely post the availability when I am sure we are going to leave. If you want I can even show you around the place so you know what you are getting into before you commit.
September 1, 2007 at 2:40 PM #82960bubble_contagionParticipantYes, I am not complaining. The rent is $1700 so the increase is of about 1.7% which is less than inflation. I was worried of a greater increase this year with all this talk about people being foreclosed and low home sales.
September 1, 2007 at 2:43 PM #82961RaybyrnesParticipantIf you you hear of anything else in that price range I would appreciate the posting. I got a second on the way and my 1 bedroom in PB is just not going to cut it much loger.
I have been paying 900 a month and the pool and weight room are nice but I need more space. I could afford up to 2000 but I have sort of been of the mind set that if I can have what I want I might as well have the minimum.
Rent has not changed for the 5 years I have been living in my apartment so no complaints there.
