When covid struck I needed to buy a webcam, and they were sold out on Amazon, and later on $30 models were selling for $200. So I dug up my 12 year old Logitech 9000, which I did a lot of research on and was one of the more premium options when I purchased it. It has a little internal motor and Carl Zeiss lens.
Once the webcam shortage subsided, I started buying some new ones, a $40 that on paper should be much better, plus a $200 prosumer type.
Both are much worse than the ancient Logitech. The biggest problem is they make me look blueish/ghostly. While there’s probably a way to fix this, it isn’t obvious. And will have I do this adjustment on Zoom, Teams, WebEx, BlueJeans, etc? Home and work and staff PCs?
So the best solution was to just get more ancient logitech webcams for all of my many desktops. Your mileage may very, but for $14 you aren’t taking much of a risk if you have a webcam that’s not very good. The Logitech 9000 also is well designed and stays in place on top of the monitor and adjusts easily. It also does well in low light.
