So feel free to zip your yammer-hole. Why brag about it?
But remember that even people who aren’t raising kids grew up in certain types of areas, and have experience with them. As well as knowing people who are raising kids in areas that aren’t cookie-cutter chain-store-infested ratholes.
My sister’s best friend decided to stay in Northeast DC and raise her daughter there, for one thing.
July 11, 2012 at 8:08 PM #747736sdrealtorParticipantOh yeah! Well my cousin’s, neighbor’s, aunt’s, hairdresser knows someone who is also. Do you realize how silly you sound?
July 11, 2012 at 8:20 PM #747737spdrunParticipantDo you realize how silly YOU guys sound, thinking that the big bad potheads will start eating children? The beach town that my family spent summers in had its fair share of weirdos, bums, and crazies.
Somehow both my sister and I survived, and were walking to the beach or friends’ houses alone long before we got our licenses.
Not to mention that my current neighborhood is full of kids, but also has a fair number of homeless people. And yes, you can often smell some whacky tabaccy coming from doorways when you’re walking down the street.
I don’t have a dog in this fight, but it’s small-minded fearful crap of this type that makes me seriously consider expatriation.

It is surprisingly prevalent in riverside county.

+1July 11, 2012 at 8:53 PM #747743spdrunParticipantI wonder what stupid excuse you guys will use when arguing with those who have kids, and are saying the same thing. Other than resorting to ad-hominem attacks, of course 🙂

That’s easy, just start calling them rock-dumb-stupid. No need for excuses or arguing.July 11, 2012 at 9:42 PM #747749scaredyclassicParticipanti thnk the most compelling argument against male teen pot use is: it may affect your male hormonal development. You may not develop to your full maleness…
July 11, 2012 at 10:23 PM #747753sdrealtorParticipantIt’s nice that you and your sister survived. My friends and I thrived, we didn’t just survive. You grew up in your kind of neighborhood and I grew up in mine. I’ll put our track record up against yours anytime.
July 11, 2012 at 10:26 PM #747754scaredyclassicParticipantmy position
extremely pro all-drug legalization.
extremely opposed to my kids using any drug esp cigs and booze but definitely weed, and all the rest. Not opposed to black tea (organic).
I’ve explained my position to them in excruciating detail ever since they were tiny. I’m pretty sure they get it.
July 11, 2012 at 11:06 PM #747757sdrealtorParticipantpretty much with you scaredy.
What sp doesnt realize is we grew up in the 70’s and 80’s surrounded by drugs in the mainstream. The drinking age was 18 which meant many high school seniors were drinking legally. Most of us had quality fake id’s and were drinking in bars at 15 and 16. We didnt grow up in vacuums. If a cop pulled you over with beer in the car they made you pour it out and told you to drop off your friends and drive home.
However, we grew up in positive environments with great schools and safe environments that gave us the tools, self confidence and strength to deal with all that. We ended up successful doctors, lawyers, CPA’s, business owners and entrepreneurs because of where we came from. Why would we want anything different for our kids.
July 11, 2012 at 11:08 PM #747759scaredyclassicParticipanti do not oppose states of altered consciousness though. My oldest is extremely good at holding his breath (swam most laps back and forth in the pool on his swim team this year, can’t remember how many yards…that could make your brain weird…) …also encourage extreme natural giddiness…
July 11, 2012 at 11:10 PM #747760scaredyclassicParticipantnow that i think about it, why was that bartender in that gay bar in that college town in upstate NY serving me well underage while hanging out touring with also underage girls in 1979?
July 11, 2012 at 11:10 PM #747761scaredyclassicParticipantre parenting advice, i kinda liked “Alternadad” by neal pollack…
