    Try looking at rentals on Craigslist and search the different communities. Just to get an idea of the different locations.

    You can tell a lot about a community just by the rental prices/mix of houses vs apartment rentals.

    I highly recommend you look at Lakewood, zip codes 90712 and 90713, as well as Long Beach zip codes 90808, and 90807. These areas are nice, affordable middle class neighborhoods.

    Torrance is nice as well but I’m not too familiar with it. I’ve lived in Westchester and while it’s nice, it’s pretty much the same as Lakewood and Long Beach but it’s more expensive and there’s less shopping. Palos Verdes and El Segundo (as well as the other beach communities west of the 405) are a little more expensive, if that’s what you’re going for.

    FLU- Thanks for the Leah Circle recommendation. If we were ready to move anytime soon I would follow up, but for now we have no firm details. We know that it will happen but not whether it will be this summer or next (or sometime in between).

    It’s not within your radius, but I think Sierra Madre is a very nice LA community. But schools are not highly rated.
