Davelj –
It might be possible for the appraiser to plead stupidity, and maybe they could avoid going to jail – I don’t know. But without a doubt, the appraiser should and I think will lose their license if they appraised a house for $600,000, with a fraudulent $600,000 sale price, when the property was actively listed at $500,000, or if there was a recent expired listing at $500,000.
There may not be an appraiser to go after, though. There have been cases in California where there were fraudulent appraisals done by identity theft – using another appraisers’ name and license number, which are both readily available to anyone.
June 19, 2007 at 10:01 PM #60643daveljParticipantjg… if you honestly believe that there is “a blessing wrapped up in the hardships” of the millions dying in Zimbabwe, Iraq and other war/despot-torn areas then you, my friend, have absolutely no sense of perspective or compassion whatsoever. That you can look at these situations and suggest that, “Hey, it’s all good – they’re trying to stay alive, aren’t they? Their lives can’t be that bad.” That’s a tortured logic worthy of a Nobel Prize in Denial. Yes, just what I’d expect from a Christian sitting on their sofa in middle America without a care in the world. (I’m sure you’d have a big smile on your face contemplating all the great “meaning” in your life if you were starving in Ethiopia. “I’m OK with this hellhole, God. It’s Your willllll.”) I guarantee that if it were YOU in one of these situations that you wouldn’t be nearly as flippant about the life and death travails of others. But I digress…
Steve and Bugs, thanks for the responses. I guess we’ll see how this whole mess pans out… I’m sure it won’t be pretty… regardless of the fact that Christians were involved. Oh my!! One wonders how God let this happen to all of these Good People…

you’re so narrow minded. the blessing doesn’t necessarily have to be for *them*.

June 20, 2007 at 6:20 AM #60684CoronitaParticipantI’m lost here. Why are we suddenly talking about religion?
Anyway, I’ve long learned that while I’d like to believe in faith and goodness in heart among all Christians, I’ve seem my fair share of crocks that say one thing, and do completely the other. On the other thing, I see plenty of decent folks regardless of religious faith (or none at all). Hence, while I won’t screw someone over, I won’t let any religious devotee use religion, sin, etc to screw me over. The “Christian” label that one may apply to him/herself obviously has no bearing on how good/bad the person really is, because we’re all human, and we all tend to think we’re above everyone else.
Sorry if you we conned by others using the Christian label. But it happens.

I have heard it said, be careful of Mechanics who display Christian symbols in their lobby. (the little dove or plastic cross etc…).
It’s not that the Christians are corrupt, but they are targets for corruption.

jg has proven again and again with his comments here at piggington that he has no compassion. He uses his religion to make himself feel better.
He’s got his, screw the rest of the world … they just dont work hard enough – is his attitude.
I, for one, think it is essential to stand up to this kind of Religious-Right bullying, so kudos to you for doing it. They will ruin our country – and already are doing so.June 20, 2007 at 6:56 AM #60723lostkittyParticipantDave-

Could you please refrain from continually posting your biased and “hate” toward people with Judeo/Christian values. We get it already. This is a real estate blog.

June 20, 2007 at 7:45 AM #60693lostkittyParticipantIf you reread every one of these topics that has turned to religion you will see that it is NOT me who is bringing it up. I am simply responding to the non-stop Religious Right propaganda that jg is incessantly posting here.
