Mike Russ’ Somber Outlook on RE, Economy

I recently took the RE broker exam prep course from Mike Russ. It was an interesting class and Mike does a good job of cutting through the BS and getting to the basics of passing the exam.

One very interesting thing I noticed was how much Mike talked about how bad things were with RE and the economy in general. I mean he spent almost 30 minutes in all talking about the Federal Reserve, leaving the gold standard, inflation and debasement of the dollar, China and the Fed buying our debt, $500B in upcoming commercial loan resets, inheritance tax increases, etc. What was equally interesting was that everyone in the class seemed to be shaking their heads in disgusted agreement…like they themselves were feeling the pinch in one way or another. I sat next to a developer from the Bakersfield area who told me earlier in the class that it cost more for him to build a home than what he could sell it for and that the banks cut them off from their financing – that developments just ground to a halt.

I thought I’d bring this up as a way to keep things in perspective. The degeneration of our economy seems to be in a bit of a lull and many are saying that we are on the cusp of a rebound. I personally have a feeling that we are about 6 months or so away from another downturn. I hope I am wrong.

On another note, that sounds about right, though I hope its not 6 months before it happens. That would be six wasted months of false hope and give TBTB the impression that all the money they are blowing is actually working.

I think I may remember meeting you at Today’s Pizza a while back, although my memory is fuzzy. Six feet is giving me some, but I’ll take it. The skin is bronze and the handshake can be firm at times. What does executive hair look like?! I don’t know why I am going for the broker’s license, either.
