Yes, I think that’s in the realm of ok.
October 19, 2015 at 6:28 PM #790470scaredyclassicParticipantLook, as a former, and some might say present, little male bitch, I am qualified to speak on this. Women are disqualified. Women weighing in here is like having the HR dept. actually legislate, reality in a workplace which they do not and cannot.
Mens’ play fighting and challenging is how we measure one another and how friendships form.
Feminizing language and male behavior is what we and my parents tried to do but it does not go well. Boys, will be boys, and that is what makes men.
I’m not saying there aren’t other ways to be men or manly just that this chatter is,well within mormal.
More than anything, fathers should want to raise sons, perceived as normal males by other male peers.
Women have no say in this matter, Just as men shouldn’t be allowed to dictate to to women how they work out their relative status and pecking order.
October 19, 2015 at 8:17 PM #790474ButleroftwoParticipantI think the other dad is obnoxious and way out of line. Your kid is normal, the other kid is immature and shocked by new language and tone, and the other dad is out of control. He must be taking the “lil b@tch” name personally. Next time, tell him to “Go f#ck himself”.
October 19, 2015 at 8:56 PM #790476scaredyclassicParticipantWords are meaningless without social context.
“Where you from” could be considered extraordinarily provocative language in the context of two opposing gang members interacting.
The words do not matter without the social context. I’m not certain but I am pretty damn sure outamojos kid was being truthful. The other kid needs to learn how to read social situations and understand current language. The speakers error was in not testing the newbies ability to be acceptable within the group with a milder test.
October 19, 2015 at 8:58 PM #790477scaredyclassicParticipantLittle pussy would have been out of line
Little bitch, no.
In 2015. Who knows what things, will be in 2020
October 19, 2015 at 9:04 PM #790478NotCrankyParticipantDefense lawyers should have no say in this because they are used to standing up for the bad guy.
Men should not say anything because our society is sick with macho.

Touche.
I’d say however our society is no different from any society in that boys long to become men … our society has no clear path, no jnitiation, and so we are not sick from machismo, but our inability to …. ummm…something to do with initiation.
Anyway, in my experience women are the meaner psychos to each other. Guys are relatively kind.
October 19, 2015 at 10:06 PM #790480FlyerInHiGuestThat explains why a friend still uses the word “bitch slap”. Sounds like a black dude wanting to bitch slap his girlfriend. Are the people who use the words more likely to commit the deeds?
October 19, 2015 at 10:32 PM #790481flyerParticipantI’ve always thought it would be a really interesting social experiment if everyone was required to post their (verified) net worth publicly–much like Transparent California openly posts state employees salaries and pensions.
Perhaps this would provide at least one validating premise (or lack thereof) for the “in your face” attitudes we see in the world today.
I’m a firm believer in what our host on this site has posited: “In God We Trust. Everyone Else Bring Data.”
October 19, 2015 at 10:45 PM #790482NotCrankyParticipant“In your face” just comes in different flavors across economic strata. In poorer words , rich people’s shit stinks the same as anyone else’s does.

I confused. What are you saying?
October 20, 2015 at 3:18 AM #790488flyerParticipantNo question there, Blogstar.
As far as the meaning of my post. After reading it again, I can see how it does sound abstract, even OT, but this discussion reminded me of some experiences we’ve had concerning people with attitudes, as have been mentioned in this thread.
I was actually thinking of how we have had friends over the years, some with very “in your face” attitudes concerning their elevated financial status when, in fact, in the end, that proved not to be the case.
These families carried on the charade as long as they could, until they found themselves with no way out, and there were no happy endings. In fact, some were tragic.
Since then, I’ve theorized that if a mechanism, such as the transparency concept had been in place, perhaps they would not have been tempted to fabricate their wealth to such a ridiculous level. (I know this is a stretch, but you never know–it might have helped.)
In these cases false “attitudes” simply kept these people from facing the truth about their circumstances, until it was too late to recover.
An interesting study in human nature.October 20, 2015 at 3:44 AM #790489njtosdParticipant
Is it true?

Is it necessary?
+1Who do you want your son to grow up to be? If this isn’t a step in the direction you are hoping for, I’d be concerned. Almost all people who say cruel/unkind things defend themselves by saying they were joking.

I don’t think you have any right to discuss whether women are psychos because you’re a man.;)
