There’s a saying, “any one (or dick) can make a,baby but it takes a real man to be a father”.
Doesn’t really work socially if you switch the genders.
A male, must prove himself manly even to remain in the family today.
This is one of those things I’ve come to accept but not understand. The older I get the more of those things there are. Probably has something to do with watching my son grow up – babies have more preloaded software than I ever imagined.
November 6, 2015 at 10:09 PM #791076scaredyclassicParticipantOver the entire course of human history stronger manly men have dominated reproductively, socially, financially. But in a few decades we now declare that all men, and even women, are all about the same….
Ahhh yep.

As my father in law (a family doc) used to say – “a persons mother is a matter of record and his father is a matter if opinion”. Not so much anymore with genetic testing. And yes, biology is destiny. Or, more depressingly, we are transportation devices for our genes, who use us to propagate themselves in the highest copy number possible. The genes of those of us who have a small number of (or no) children will be diluted out by those who have many. I try not to think about it.
Maybe we will learn to nurture offspring not born to blue bloods and it will matter less who actually conceives. It makes it easier to thin k about anyway.November 7, 2015 at 8:27 AM #791079scaredyclassicParticipantwhen we learn to ignore our nature
November 7, 2015 at 9:36 AM #791081NotCrankyParticipantWe do a very good job of manipulating, suppressing and exaggerating our nature in so many ways . The potential to do those things is only getting greater.
Not to mention that nature is working on our nature , at whatever speed .

November 7, 2015 at 11:22 AM #791084FlyerInHiGuestIf you’re a 6’4, 180 athlete you should care about mating with another genetic blue blood.
The rest of us short guys have to use social artifices of masculinity.
November 7, 2015 at 4:29 PM #791086flyerParticipantIt’s true that much of who we are is baked into the cake genetically, but I still believe we all have a great deal of power to change our destinies if we choose to. We’ve known many people (male and female) who have defied the odds to excel at their chosen goals, so it can be done.
It’s great to have a discussion like this about what’s right and wrong in the world when it comes to opportunities in life (or lack thereof) especially when it comes to our kids, etc.
Attempting to alter inequalities in life is a noble pursuit, but, since life is short for all of us, imo, it might be best to also concentrate efforts on giving our kids the best tools possible (whatever that means to each person) to succeed–so they are prepared–regardless of what they face out in the world. At least, that is what we tried to do with our now grown children.

A woman will rarely doubt that she will reproduce if she wants to. A male is never certain he will be accepted … big difference in reality that no social justice warrior can begin to eradicate.

I just checked out a bunch of books by Ursula K. Le Guin, don’t know how I missed this author all these years. I am about half way into The Left hand of Darkness. She fits with the course this thread has been on and recently taken.

Any woman who thinks the sees are the, same has no concept of what occurs in men’s heads. We are thinking about fucking literally 23. 5 hours per day. Women aren’t compelled to think about having sex with every man they lay eyes,on. But a man carries that burden. It’s exhausting. Sure it slows, down a bit with timr. By your 50s, you only have to think about sex 5 h. Per day

If biology is destiny, and women have the ultimate power of choice as to whom to reproduce with, then they have all the power. Like the Amazons.
CAr may argue that men have the power to force themselves upon women. Either that, or men are really good at fooling women, or women are desperate for any Dick.
November 9, 2015 at 5:07 PM #791121scaredyclassicParticipantI’m pretty sure most men wouldn’t do a damp thing but lay around, get drunk and jerk off, but for women and the drive to satisfy them. I’m pretty sure ultimately women run the show.
