I lived in Crown Point on Jewell Street in ’05 and ’06. I remember when I would drive north on Ingraham coming into PB there was a large billboard right above Crest Liquor.
The billboard was a picture of an attractive 20 something blond girl smiling in her car with her hair blowing in the wind.
The caption on the billboard was something like “dating in PB, if only he knew how much equity she had in her condo.” I think it was for the Avalon.
I was there last weekend and the billboard is not there anymore.
Does anyone remember that or have any other hilarious marketing schemes they would like to share?
1-800-CALL-TROY “for all your mortgage needs” billboards all over town. Troy looked like he was a hipster in his early 30s, the kind of guy you’d like to gamble with in Vegas but definitely NOT someone with a finance background!
Those billboards were up for about six months in early 2005 and then – poof! I think I saw Troy at Pacific Honda last week.
BTW – CalPacific Mortgage’s slogan is, “Your loan agent for life.” Honestly – who really wants a loan guy / gal hanging around that long?
Here’s another. Dancing cowboys on my computer screen offering me a $500K mortgage for $423 a month.
Also, that silhouetted couple doing the hustle on a rooftop…. $300K mortgage for $259 a month.
How about the mini-video of the office secretary holding her hands up to her face because she is SO EXCITED about the new loan product, and I can be too, if I just… “click here?”
“Mortgage rates hit new lows…. click your state.” Right now I have a bull’s eye offering a free credit report….
I was in the market for a condo in ’05 and I had contacted several realtors. One invited me to a wine and cheese party at his Mission Hills mansion, another bought me happy hour drinks in the Gaslamp, and another sent me a booklet containing $10 off coupons to several local retailers.
Now, all I get is pre-printed mass mailed lame postcards.
“i just spent more than 24 hours camping out on the street to buy a condo. sure, it sounds crazy, but that’s what it takes this days to buy a condo pre-construction. i showed up at 9:30am on saturday morning for a sunday 11:00am first-come first-served offering and was the THIRD person on the line. eleven condo units were being offered today… the first couple got there at 630am, next couple around 10:30 (i had gone to walk around the neighborhood to reassure myself it was ok to buy so lost a spot on the line). from there, the three of us buyers were mentally prepared to go the distance and stayed all alone until 4:30pm, when the next soul showed up.”
