I’ve been making a point to look at bathrooms in MLS pics in newly renovated properties plus new construction to get ideas for my condo’s outdated bathrooms.
I noticed basically none have medicine cabinets. Just flat mirrors.
This is bad bad bad. Maybe OK in a guest half bath, but a bathroom people actually use every morning, the medicine cabinet lets a lot of junk that is used semiregularly or daily be placed out of sight rather than on top of the counters.
Just one example, an otherwise very nicely updated 2/1:
There are likely going to be 2-3 people using that one bathroom.
Are they all going to be stacking their deodorants, razors, makeup, mouthwash, floss, sunblock, etc in that small under sink cabinet and hunch down multiple times every morning to pick them up and put them back?
I understand that a flat mirror looks a little more sleek and streamlined than a protruding medicine cabinet. But once people live there, the sleek mirror will mean lots of unsightly clutter on the bathroom countertop.
Another thing you lose out on is the ability, with a multidoor medicine cabinet, to open the doors slightly to get a look at the back of your head. With a fixed mirror, in order to do this you need a second hand mirror. More clutter!
