Brooks: Even If Troop Surge Completely Fails, It Will Help McCain Politically
This is from Chris Matthews show Dec 2006. Chris and New York Times columnist David Brooks.
Very obvious from this little clip that troop surge had good or even great likelihood to work. To appease voters, the exec party went in with too few troops, the dems promised to bring troops home and didnt back surge. It took a moronic NYT America hater reporter to figure that out. And yet the stupid dems couldnt understand this 3rd grade logic??? Talk about obstinate. Powell’s two rules were so apt here: go in with overwhelming force (failed since Iraqi army essentially fired) and the Pottery Barn rule (you broke it, you fix it).

“David, you think if Bush moves for more troops, following the Army’s advice, McCain’s on board, in fact, his biggest booster, that’s a doubling down for the bet for both those guys. What does it do to McCain’s future?
Mr. BROOKS: Well, I think people look at his conviction. I mean, if you look at every analysis of the war, every book that’s been written about it, it all comes back to three words: not enough troops. And John McCain has been saying that for three years, and the White House did not listen to him for three years, and people are going to remember that, I think.
MATTHEWS: But if it turns out that more troops don’t do the job, is he disproven.
Mr. BROOKS: Right. Well, not at this late date. I mean, then they’ll just say — and I think he’ll say with a lot of justice, it’s too late. And he said that even this week. One more surge, and then we have to look at a new reality. “

This is why the O man is talking about nuking iran. Rove would second that motion if he ran the O man’s camp. However, since its way too late to diverge from O man’s party line ways, the new views have ZERO credibility. Does anyone really think for a second that good guys like Veritas (no offense, handy target) would honestly believe the new policies? Wouldn’t most call him a flip flopper and vote for McCain anyway? Still sticking with my mathematically impossible for O man to win.BTW: These two repbs below have the gravitas, sincerity to forward this resolution without being called names. Big difference, you gotta earn respect.

On July 12, 2007, Sens. Warner and Richard Lugar (R-Ind.) introduced an amendment to the FY2008 defense appropriations bill that would require the President to devise an exit strategy from Iraq within three months.

July 19, 2008 at 1:28 AM #242610equalizerParticipantBugs,
Sounds like you are bitter and ready to cling to your appraisal reports. 🙂
Same could be said for Texas; if repb said he was a Martian (no, not Ron Paul, he is a Moonian), he would still win Texas by 70-30.

July 19, 2008 at 2:14 AM #242615equalizerParticipantBroken record, but gotta say again that Clinton, Obama are so selfish, only care about their personal needs desires instead of the good of their party or country. Obama is so out there that Mondale is looking good right now. Clinton, despised by half the country, still seems downright moderate compared to Obama. If these two idiots had any ounce of loyalty to their party, they would never had run and moderate like Mark Warner or Tim Kaine would have coasted to 10 point win. But no, gotta have that change, gotta have that woman. It’s not too late, Obama and Clinton can still walk away.
Watching McLaughlin Group on PBS, “Mort” Zuckerman was jokingly asked how the billionaire views the banks. BTW, he is the conservative billionaire owner of USN World report. He replied that we’ll get through this but that this will be the longest and deepest recession since the Great Depression. With that kind of attitude, Obama should be up 10-20 points in the poll now vs McCain like Dukakis was up in polls in summer of 88 vs GB1 before he got SwiftTanked. The fact that polls are tied now spells doom for Obama. I told friends that only way that Obama would win is if we have major recession, which today means if BofA or maybe even if smaller WaMu get taken over by FDIC. Exec party will do whatever it takes to prevent that because it would mean dem would win. So game over. All you geeks can run your fancy Monte Carlo game theory simulations, but you’ll still come up with my simple answer.
PS: All 4 people on show agreed that dems would pick up 5 Senate seat to get to 54.
