High risk, high return. So yep, playing w/ options is like playing w/ fire. You can win big but you can also lose big.
Regarding timing the market, I’ve given up on trying to time it. I just let it do what it does and follow the momentum, be it up or down.

No one made a fortune being short the market.
Some of us have been shorting the subprime lenders for a long time, recently it has really paid off. I was in NEW since last year and it wasn’t doing much but now I’m up 70%. LEND is also doing very well for shorts.
For those with individual broker accounts, there is no reason to short the entire market, shorting subprime and homebuilders will pay off more. Eventually the overall market will follow suit but not as sharply.
