looking for a commercial RE broker

Can anyone recommend a broker who specializes in commercial real estate? I’m considering purchasing some warehouse or light industrial space. My specific needs are flexible but I’m looking for something fairly central – Morena, Barrio Logan, Nat’l City, etc (i.e., not Oceanside or Otay Mesa).

Are you looking for it purely as an investment, or is it user space you’re looking for? Any idea approx. sq foot you need?

If you want to just do some general market research to see what kind of space is available you can do a search on http://www.loopnet.com or http://www.showcase.com

SK, I’m looking primarily for a place to store an RV, trailers, desert toys, race cars, etc, and set up some metalworking and welding equipment. I own two residential rental properties already, so for this I’m mostly thinking of it as a place to park some capital, get use of the space, and hopefully make a few bucks when I sell it in 10 or 15 years.

I did poke around on Loopnet and it seems like most of the properties are in O’Side or Otay, and many of those are commercial condos. Dunno how the commercial condo world works but my gut feeling is that I’d rather go fee simple if I can find such a place. It seems like there’s loads of appropriately funky properties along Main St. in National City but those sorts of properties do not show up in loopnet.

I’m reasonably familiar with how things work in the residential RE world but I have no clue how the commercial side works, which is why I wanted to talk to someone who specializes in this stuff, first to see if I can even do this, and secondly to hopefully find a suitable property.

Holy shit Hatfield. I was just thinking the same thing a few months ago and rethinking it a few days ago.
I was cursing just a few days ago about how to squeeze my cars into my ‘hood without overly pissing off my HOA and neighbors…and cursing I don’t have a car lift…and cursing my garage ceiling is too low to install one of these…

(I wish i had the accompanying cars on the lifts too…Meanwhile my next house requirement is at least a 3 car garage with enough clearance to install one of these)…

….And there were two totaled miatas that I wanted to buy recently CR and keep them as parts cars…. so I was thinking it would be nice to have a cheap inexpensive place to dump a bunch of junk, spare parts for cars, home repair, appliances, and maybe even a place to work, like install a car lift, work bench, welding station and paint booth.

I’ve been advised by some folks that loopnet isn’t the best place to find commercial deals. But haven’t really followed through on doing any due diligence on it seriously (until days that I’m cursing again for lack of shop space).

If you don’t mind, send me a PM on how it works out for you. I’d be curious.

Also, what sort of race car(s) you got? Just curious. I have a POS miata that I just got up to spec with new suspension, brakes, slicks that I’m putting to work for light duty trashing on autox and possibly morei n the future.. No engine mods yet. I took it on an autox for the first time, and I royally stink, so I need to do the “be a better driver mod” first…

Nice choice of cars there. My 996 is only the base model. 🙂 Actually, I’m not sure why anyone would want a Turbo 996 *and* whatever 996 the upper one is (Carrera S? GT-3?) Just for variety’s sake I would have gone with an old Targa or a 914/6 or something. I guess you’d have to give it the lower bunk since the old ones tend to wet the bed.

To answer your question, the race car(s) in question are nothing fancy. Quite the opposite: 24 Hours of Lemons cars, the sort of thing that, if left in the driveway, tends to bring out the neighbors with torches and pitchforks.

I’m headed out of town for a few days so I’ll give that broker a call next week and let you know what I learn.

Nice cars flu, I would not trust that lift though unless I had no choice but to park them like that.

See this is where living in the sticks pays off, got about half acre flat to park anything I want, barn building is encouraged here as well.

Now all I got to do is find a way to earn enough money and time to buy a race car. (well any somewhat fast car even). And add a barn to the wish list.
