GuestGreat post Arraya.
I too am sickened to see the lengths at which local public officials have gone to ensure that their tax revenue, social welfare programs, and salaries are not affected by this downturn. It seems that it really has been a slippery slope regarding the criminalization of being unable to pay debt, which began with the Federal Govt changing the bankruptcy laws. I currently live in Maryland, but I see some recurring themes being played out on both the east and west coasts. I am appalled by the means that our local and state governments are seeking to stabilize “their income” through the use of exhorbitant fines and fees. See the links below regarding Montgomery county’s explanation of speed cameras, and the unlawful actions of the state government to “find” some enemies so that they could justify receiving more federal dollars. Just appalling.
