I listened to Tom Fudge on These Days today, and he was interviewing the economist from SANDAG, and another from the San Diego Regional Economic Development Council (or something like that). Both guests said the opposite of what I posted a few days ago about the SD economy: housing is robust and will stay flat or increase only slightly, the tech and biotech markets are surging. I wrote him a long e-mail and suggested he invite Dr. Pigginton (aka Rich) on his next show, to present a more balanced view.
During the interview, which was perhaps 15 minutes, there was time for only 2 calls. Both were from callers who disagreed with the housing assessment of these economists, and thought there would be a decline, the decline had already started, and there would be an impact on the economy. I guess the locals aren’t fooled anymore by the rosy portrayals of the government economists.
Great idea, It’d be nice to see the Professor debate one of the real estate perma-bulls in a public forum. I think I’ll write in and volunteer the Professor as well (once he gets better, that is).
I love it when people point to a couple of positives in the present to justify the continued rise of an asset. Oh look, tech and biotech are surging presently, housing can’t go down. What do you mean housing could go down, look how much I’ve made on my house in the last two years!
