Yep, Lexus auto sales down about half! Only 700 LS models sold in USA!! The 5 series BMW sold 3,200 last month. That is quite shocking, since Lexus became #1 luxury seller and could have gone on to outsell most luxury brands combined. Quick look at Carsdirect shows that new prices at Lexus are NOT discounted, but Infiniti cars and Acura SUVs are discounted.
Acura sales probably took a hit for more than one reason. While the new MDX is nicer than the previous gen, it’s gas mileage actually went down a little. Also, I think the Acura has foobared the exterior styling just about every latest offering with the exception of the TSX and MDX with the snow-plow looking front grill fascade and the edgy, overexaggerated look (new TL and RL)

Totally agree. That plastic grill is horrendous. Also, Acura is the last of the luxury brand to still be using 5-speed auto.March 15, 2009 at 10:58 PM #367064anParticipant
I protest to the CV snobbery comment AN :)…But i do think the analogy between toyota camry to lexus ES 350 to your German “counterpart” would be more equivalent to taking a good townhome in MM and slapping a fancy name to it like “Waterridge” and then selling that townhome at Carmel Valley townhome price points minus a few thousand bucks…. which worked in 2005, just like Lexus.:)
Just kidding there AN πSpeaking of Lexus. The zing at 0:33 is quite amusing π (though I admit, the A6 isn’t my cup of tea either).

FYI, it’s Wateridge with 1 R. :-), I used to live there, so I know what you mean. However, the 1400 sq-ft model is still selling for around $440k, unbelievable but true.Audi has a thing with Lexus. Their Q5 commercial have a bunch of RX on there too.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l8MTpaBUCpcI guess it a complement on Lexus’s part.
As the commercial ends, and what they don’t tell you afterwards..
“Powered by Quattro”……..Made in China.
Lol. Um, no thank you on the Q5.
