Awesome post and a concise, precise statement as to why protectionist nitwits like Scarlett and Paddy are DEAD WRONG.
Smoot-Hawley, anyone? And, no, Paddy, it isn’t a dessert wine.
“Perhaps Jeff is simply a free trader at heart, indirectly saying with absolute clarity that we the people should not be afraid of global competition. After all, in its essence, free trade versus protectionism is simply a battle of self-interests between the general public and private enterprise.”
Allen you mental midget, there is a BIG, BIG difference in calling for FAIR trade and being a protectionsist. We (the USA) practice trade charity, not free trade. Our trade competitors practice predatory trade, not “free trade”. Why do you have so much trouble getting that?
I advocate FAIR trade, a level playing field like other countries create on thier home turf for their manufacturers.
Scarlet, I’m a mental midget? Well, hopefully, you’re older than your 6th grade education would indicate. Yeah, let’s see, I can compose coherent meaningful sentences with proper grammar and syntax.
You are a protectionist. Your stance is geared solely to your favored industry, auto manufacturing, and does not take into account the effects your policies will have on other areas of American manufacturing.
You’re not a free trader at all. You’re hiding behind the protectionist/predatory measures that a handful of other countries employ (but not all) as a means of pushing an “American only” agenda. In other words, since Japan, Korea and China use predatory measures, our gloves are off and ALL goods need to be American as a recompense.
Take a few minutes and familiarize yourself with the Smoot-Hawley Act and the effects it had on America’s economy during the Great Depression.
And before you start in with the name calling, learn how to at least spell my name correctly. I’m sure your hamster can run a little faster, he’s undoubtedly running a fine GM motor.
