i hate the “well, if you’re gonna legalize pot, then you might as well take acid and screw a horse.” I mean, jeepers.
it sounds similar to the arguments that if we legalize gay marriage then everyone will be saying pedophilia is ok and the next thing you know teachers wil be having sex with kids while on drugs.
Instead of inventing some worst case scenario, take the issue on its merits, like gay marriage.
And yeah, what about phelps? i thought pot made you a slacker loser? Maybe slackers are attracted to it, maybe more loser than non-losers smoke it currently, but there may not be a cause and effect out there. in fact, maybe it’s more slacker-concentrated because it’s illegal.
Maybe if it were available to the general public we would have a better class of smoker. Like, if booze is illegal and you get 30 years in prison for drinking it, then probably only the most desperate hardcore alkies will be drinking and the alcohoo community will be pretty nasty and fit the worst possible stereotype…there will be no recreational drinking because normal people cannot chance it.
. but if you legalize booze and sell it in supermarkets, normal dudes like myself who can limit themselve to 2 (ok, 4) drinks a day end up int he representative mix of drinkers and alcohol doesn’t look so bad. i don’t get nutty, beat my wife, pass out in my own vomit on streetcorners, expose myself ina drunken rage while railing against the governemnt, etc. i just sit and have a few drinks and laugh. .
All the temperance movement people describe alccohol in the same sort of road-to-depravity images as come up here int he “i cannot bear to live in asociety where pot is sold.’ yeah, well, pinch-faced old broads couldn’t bear to lvie ina society where alcohol was sold early last century. grow up, get over it and let’s balance the damn budget. but whatever you do, don’t say bong hits 4 jesus! at your local high school or the supreme court of the united states will hang you out to dry. probly woulda been a different result if itd been legalized

My room-mate in college used it constantly, when he wasn’t drinking. Graduated top of class in 3 majors, and went on to Stanford PhD and a job as a researcher at Bell Labs. That’s what slacking will do for you.
