I suppose that it will help the budget but no way, no how, no chance does this help raise the bar of our society in general. [/quote]
Which is worse, the effects of smoking/ingesting the plant, or the persecution brought on by the Nixon-era conservative racists law makers.
In this case the punishment is much worse than the crime. The laws cause much greater harm to the user than the plant itself.
Giving any anyone who smokes/possesses/grows Cannabis jail time would be like giving jail time to someone who wants to Jaywalk. In both cases it’s their choice, does very little harm to society in general may cause trouble if you do it at the wrong place and wrong time, but most of the harm falls on the person making the choice. Oh yea, and Jaywalking might actually kill you.
It’s not like smoking a Cigarette where you get cancer and cause the premiums on the insurance of non-smokers to go up, or alcohol where you might get in a wreck and kill someone else

Bill Hicks
I have always loved Marijuana. It has been a source of joy and comfort for me for many years and I still think of it as a basic staple of life, along with beer, and ice, and grapefruits and millions of Americans agree with me.
-Hunter S Thompson
“Marijuana is self-punishing. It makes you acutely sensitive, and in this world, what worse punishment could there be?”
P. J. O’Rourke quotesEven if one takes every reefer madness allegation of the prohibitionists at face value, marijuana prohibition has done far more harm to far more people than marijuana ever could.”
