Nice post Username, but I disagree with one part:
Since people can and will grow their own it might not produce as many tax dollars as one hopes
People can grow their own tomatoes and lettuce, but how many do? Perhaps a better analogy: people can brew their own beer, but how many do? Granted, weed is a lot easier to grow (hence the name weed), but if a corporation can grow, harvest, distribute, and sell in a way that makes it easier for people to buy than to grow, people will pay for it.
It’s a hell of a lot easier to go down to the corner liquor store and buy a 6-pack than it is to brew your own beer.
Beer is cheap, pot is very expensive. Their $1 billion revenue estimate is based on a tax of $30 per ounce of pot. Current market rate is something like $500/ounce (as far as I know). Even if legalization brings down the cost to almost zero, $30/ounce is still a good incentive to grow your own.
I’ve “known people who have” grown and brewed “their” own and there’s a certain satisfaction to producing something yourself. Plus it’s a hell of a lot better quality than anything store bought and mass produced.
Also depending on the market good Cannabis is between $200 and $400 an ounce. Might be worth paying a bit more since the cops in Humboltd know the locals and know why strangers visit the area and it’s dangerous to transport

February 26, 2009 at 3:12 PM #355590afx114ParticipantI agree with all that, but how many people do you think will actually take the time/effort to grow their own pot if they could just walk down to the store and buy a couple joints? Remember, stoners are lazy. Plus, you could buy some Cheetohs at the same store — most likely in the same aisle. I don’t know anyone who can grow their own Cheetohs.

That’s a stereotype, I know many stoners who are professionals, lawyers stock brokers and scientists at pharmaceutical companies.
Lazy is a personlity trait not caused from smoking Cannabis

Aren’t those made from styrofoam mixed with fake cheese?
