    I work with a company with thousands of IT employees. They have a similar problem nationwide right now – it is not limited to the government.

    I don’t understand, what is the problem? People in IT retiring?

    The state shouldn’t be in the IT business anyway, it makes sense to contract out IT services in most cases.

    Now in terms of IT as a career – I wouldn’t wish that on my worst enemy.

    Then you probably picked the wrong career for your tastes. Mine has pretty fine after a decade and a half and counting. It could turn south tomorrow, but it has been a fine ride up to now.
