Your teeth are constantly “remineralizing” or repairing themselves.
Processed food is bad, but when I went to an all-raw diet my jaw bone hurt from all the chewing. We evolved smaller weaker jaws than apes as we learned to cook and “process” food, leaving more space for brains.
December 13, 2022 at 2:48 PM #827146scaredyclassicParticipantWhy get fillings?

Query: Can decay be stopped without a filling?
December 14, 2022 at 6:29 AM #827154svelteParticipantYou need to be around a few people who haven’t taken care of their teeth scaredy.
Just seeing and smelling that will convince you that dentistry is a very good thing.
December 14, 2022 at 7:13 AM #827153CoronitaParticipantStop being so cheap scaredy. The more you try to skimp on dentistry the more you’re going to pay in dollars and in pain later for going cheap up front. You need to go find an old dentist that’s been in practice in your area for a long time, someone roughly your age.
My experience is these old dentist baby boomers tend to be the most honest and reasonably priced in the services they charge and don’t skimp on materials. They’ve done well through the years,.aren’t saddled with college student loan debt , and don’t try to rip people off by selling services they don’t need. They have integrity. If you are in San Diego , I strongly recommend Dr Belnap in Rancho Penesquito.
I found that often times going to a younger dentist of my generation , they tend to be the ones with the fancy offices that charge for every little thing.
Read their yelp and Google reviews. Partcularly reviews about their billing dept. Even if the dentist is good but the billing dept sucks, stay away.
December 14, 2022 at 7:46 AM #827155scaredyclassicParticipantHmmm.
I went to 2 dentists.
One said I have 3 cavities.
One said I have no cavities
Is “taking care of your heart” eating clean or putting in a stent.
This isn’t a cheap thing. It’s an actual question. If we go zero sugar, is tooth decay halted? What actually causes tooth decay and are we just on a vicious cycle of eating wrong and saying, well, dentistry is how we live. We destroy our teeth and drill them, with shit getting way worse into old age.
That seems insane.
Alcohol is according to some holistic dentistry sites awful. We sit for hours bathing our teeth and gums with…sugar, swirling it in our mouths, letting it rest, perfect decay environment.
At this moment, I am committed to never ever putting another piece of bread, pasta, energy bar or any thing with sugar, other than fruit, which apparently might be ok in moderation. I think some nude sunbathing for high vit.bd levels may be essential too
Keto dentistry.
December 14, 2022 at 7:54 AM #827156sdrealtorParticipantGenetics. Not on my side in this one. I have a great dentist in Vista. I see him at least three times a year. I trust him implicitly. Have been going for 30 years. My mother was one of his first patients out of USC dental school and referred him tons of patients. Put him on the map to building his practice
December 14, 2022 at 8:27 AM #827157scaredyclassicParticipantGenetic tendency. But is it destiny?
Osteoporosis.
Is it preventable w diet and exercise?
Yeah, probably.
Bones. Teeth. Same stuff?
A doctor might talk to you about diet to improve diseases. But I have never heard a dentist say anything other than don’t eat candy.
If I eat nothing but salads nuts tofu and apples in 2023, will my teeth really continue to decay? What else can we do for prevention in terms of taking care of teeth? Whose teeth would be better in one year: a guy who eats standard American dirt plus a few drinks a night, 4 dentist visits a year, or a guy who eats nuts and leaves, flosses no brushing, no dentistry?

Not really. There are people who I know that never took care of their teeth like my dad, and still have perfect no cavities. And there are people like my significant other that brush every day 3 times, floss, rinse etc, and still end up with a cavity and tooth decay. So it depends.
Coffee and tea stain teeth, and that’s stubborn to remove.
You definitely should get more than 1 opinion of one dentist suddenly says you need work. There are dentists that are chop shops that will push to get procedures you don’t need, not different then that shady mechanic that tells you need to change the blinker fluid.
I remember I cracked one of my wisdom tooth, and my old dentist wanted to do a crown, etc. And it was estimated to be $800. I was like, why don’t you just extract the wisdom tooth, since that’s what people do anyway. And he’s like, oh you can’t do that, because your bite will be off, yada yada yada. So I went to another dentist who told me that I should just extract the tooth. It was $150, and insurance paid for most of it.
Definitely get a second opinion.

I think you did the right thing. Once there is a crack in a tooth it is just going to keep getting damaged, infected, etc. Not worth trying to save. And that crown probably would have ended up more than $800.
If you ever need an immediate second opinion, try Dental Express in Point Loma. They can usually get you an exam appointment with x-rays and consult in 24 hours and don’t mind serving as second opinion consultants.

You’re still going to die. Just buy the minivan already. That way when you go postal at Walmart or whatnot and the news describes the shooter as a pasty balding man driving a taup or tan colored minivan, we’ll know it was you.

Josh[/quote]I’m not balding, strangely. And not pasty, more olive. Be on the lookout for a really skinny jew.
