Those are not very big, must be fancy for that price? How ornate are they? What are other design items, full frame, privacy screen, hot dipped galvanized? lock sets, Tube or solid, gold leaf finish?
Seems like for a basic solid gate maybe a few basic ornaments and perforated sheet metal screen would be around $1000 each. installed.
I bought raw materials from here: http://www.metalamore.com/ma/ and also a stick welder and made my own stair railings. You might want to look at their components and galley images anyway.

I agree that $1000 each installed should be reasonable. Thanks!|link=node|align=left|width=73|height=100]
October 10, 2012 at 1:55 PM #752408NotCrankyParticipantThose are very nice. The gates you specified are small. Do they need side panels, like the one on the porch in the pictures that you posted?(Top Picture) If so, how wide would they be? That could make a lot of difference.
I’d go down to Metal Amore, or wherever you can find the gate or gate parts, or send them the picture and your dimensions. With a quote for materials you can compare that to your bids. But then again, that legwork may be part of the trouble you want to pay for.
October 10, 2012 at 2:08 PM #752410bob2007ParticipantI have been thinking of gates as well. Who did you get the first 2 quotes from?
October 10, 2012 at 2:15 PM #752412kkunParticipantI installed a iron gate a month back. It’s simpler than your design, larger in size 12 ft wide by 5 ft tall. Total cost including installation was $1200- in Cash. I got it done by a guy from a company called SD Iron Works. You can call him @ 619 850 4955 and ask him to do the job directly without going through the company. If you show him the design he should be able to make it. He also has an album with number of gate photos- if you want to choose from. You should negotitate the price with him and offer him to pay cash for better discount.
I was getting $3200 price from other places I checked which clearly is a rip-off.

October 10, 2012 at 3:34 PM #752417profhoffParticipantRelated to gate install, does anyone have a good gate repair company they can recommend. the house we bought has a nonworking driveway gate and I would like to see about getting it repaired.
October 10, 2012 at 8:12 PM #752431EVSDCAParticipantBlogstar, the 4*5 ft wouldn’t need the side panel, but the 6*5 ft would need both side panels. We are not very handy. Therefore, we do want to have people install the gates without having to do anything work. Thansks
October 10, 2012 at 8:13 PM #752433EVSDCAParticipantThanks kkun, we will check SD Iron Works out. The price seems to be in the ball park that we want to spend on gates.

October 10, 2012 at 8:17 PM #752434EVSDCAParticipantBob, we got quote from Barrett Southwest Fence Inc ($5K), and the other company that I don’t keep the name as he only quote me over the phone. He didn’t even come out to my house to take a look at where he will be installing those gates. I emailed him the picture, and he gave me an over the phone quote.
October 11, 2012 at 9:28 AM #752458UCGalParticipantWhen we were getting quotes for iron railing we found that rates are all over the map.
We had a good experience with superior fence. Less expensive, easy to work with, offered solutions that other companies didn’t.
October 11, 2012 at 3:28 PM #752511EVSDCAParticipantThanks!!!!
