Ok You win. There’s nothing they can eat.
I guess you perceive what I’m saying as a reverse Marie Antoinette instead if let them eat cake let them eat beans. The response seems to be but that’s boring.
Maybe I’m being a jerk. If so I apologize
I feel I’d rather have beans than nothing maybe a little chili powder. I d rather have boxed wine than nothing. And even though I could buy steak, I’d rather eat the beans and sometimes the cheapest wine and save the difference for a rainy day. I don’t feel deprived when I do that I feel happy.
I saved up money for a downpayment like that w lots of kids and expenses. Now I’m not saving Toward anything in particular but it’s a habit that’s tough to break
The tightwad gazette is the book that lays it all out
Excellent post, scaredy. As is this one:
i guess people have wildly different ideas about what is necessary in terms of food. Food insecurity is a terrible thing, but there are options on a limited budget…
I know you have been thru everything that I’ve been discussing here with your clients. I’m intimately familiar with your noble occupation and have been there, done that and seen it all. I’m sure you and your staff have repeatedly directed your clients and their family members to any and all assistance programs that are available to their families.
I think I’ll sign up for a subscription to the “Tightwad Gazette.” What the heck? I might learn something. :=]

March 8, 2011 at 1:32 PM #674898bearishgurlParticipant
What if 3 days a week you just spent a buck a person on food? 30 percent inflation wouldn’t be noticeable compared to if you were spend 15 a day per person.
We’ve got food insecurity and obesity both widespread.
Clearly change is required.
Actually, a “buck a person per day” is doable in the here and now but may be lacking in essential amino acids and protein. If you could get a good vitamin thru Medi-Cal, I think it would work.
Certainly, $1 to $2.50 a day for food is VERY doable. I can survive on this by myself just fine (and sometimes with my kid).
