Ruin the economies of scale some products rely on the keep prices down and you could end up driving prices up!

January 27, 2011 at 5:25 PM #658848GHParticipantI agree food prices are up and up by quite a bit. One tip if you are around the Encinitas or Oceanside area at all is Smart & Final Plus, where you can buy vegetables at 1/2 the price of Vons, Ralphs etc and IMO nicer stuff.

Thanks, GH. I’m in South County and go to Grocery Outlet for cheaper fresh fruit/veg (some bagged but all good). Also I know several people who will take me to the Navy Commissary at least once a month. Both of these places are LESS than 1/2 the price of Vons, Ralph’s or Albertsons.
Also there is a “day-old” Oroweat bakery outlet nearby.
It’s not all bad at Ralph’s. This morning, there were 4.5 lb FF Roasters for $3.59 on clearance and 20 extra large eggs for $1.99 on clearance. I only got the chicken but if you can shop on weekday mornings right after they put the markdowns out, you score! Who cares about a bent can or taped up box! This usually happened in the “shelf stocking” procedure.
