Families with guns are only statistically significant in their tendency towards suicide.
Unless you keep a gun on you all the time (and drawn), its not a great help in the city.

Haven’t had any problems yet, I might add that the best thing to do is get to know your neighbors. If you don’t then they are less likely to check something out while you are gone.
