increase in robberies

In past few months or so I noticed a spike in number of robberies around San Diego neighborhoods. I personally know few people got robbed in past couple of weeks and other day a lady came to my house handing out flyer’s regarding recent increase in robberies in my neighborhood. I know this type of crime usually increases with unemployment and economic hardship, but this is getting worrisome. Have you noticed similar crimes in your neighborhood? Since there is no police patrol in most places, how do you protect your family ?

We got an e-mail from a neighbor the other day describing two separate car break-ins at their house and another neighbors’. When the police came there to file the report, the officer said that was her fifth call that morning, and there were many more to go. This is in a “good” neighborhood.
