This reminds me of what made us decide to buy our first place about 20 yrs ago.
We were living in MM and the landlord announced the apt rent was going from $700 to 900, or something nuts like that. That was it, we went out home shopping and bought a condo within a month. That was the best decision we ever made (aside from having our kids :)) and it helped boot-strap us into our current home.
Thank you, landlord, for so clearly showing us the right direction!
ps – they ended up canceling the rent increase due to a renters revolt like you wouldn’t believe.

We rented our 2400 sq ft home a year ago for $2600/month at a time when some similar were rentign even for less.
This place now renting for $3,000 per month! Also I spent a week looking at alternative rentals, and that IS the going rate for bigger houses in Silicon Valley (good locations).
In Palo Alto (PREMIUM location) this kind of house is renting for $4000 or even $5000!

Where is someone paying only $750 for a 3/2 ? Is this in El Centro ?[/quote]Yeah, I’d like to know myself. My first guess was Death Valley.
