ParticipantImho….It depends on the social/economic status of the folks that will be attending the school.
So to answer that question, find out if the school district is going to be doing anything “weird” in filling the student body (IE bus kids from other areas, draw the district lines in a wierd way, etc)…
Here is one extreme example of how house prices affected one area in norcal (Mission San Jose School District in Fremont)…
Read it. It’s interesting…

Busing won’t be any different than it has already been. In MM, the SW quadrant have no elementary school. So, all the kids in this area will either have to cross MM Blvd. or Camino Ruiz to get to an elementary school. So, walking is tough or not a good idea (due to crossing busy streets). But with the new school built, they can get to the school in < 8 blocks, depending on where you live. Generally, I don't expect the student body to be that different from other elementary schools on the west side of MM. Some part of SW MM is being assigned to Mason Elementary, which doesn't perform as well as other Elementary schools on the west side. So, if I have to guess, based on the student body, this new school will score better than Mason and more in line with other schools on the west side.March 12, 2012 at 6:52 PM #739780sdrealtor
ParticipantFor whatever reason new schools seem to underperform what you would expect the first years on standardized tests and then they steadily improve and end up among the highest in the local area. At least that’s what I have observed.

Corner of Parkdale and Flanders, next to Maddox Park.[/quote]WOW finally building something there. I grew up in MM and always thought that be a good spot for a school. Surprised that lot is still open (haven’t been by in almost 10 years).

pardee flatten out that hill 30 years ago for a school. Back then, they didn’t build it because the enrollment didn’t support another school. When enrollment support it around 10 years ago, they found fairy shrimp there and the environmentalist have been trying trying to stop building that school ever since. They were given the land next to Challenger in exchange for the school to be built. They just got the architecture approved by the stated recently and they’re hoping to get permit and start building in a few month and have it done for 2015 school year.March 13, 2012 at 10:52 AM #739815an

I wonder if that steady improvement is because people who care about school are more attracted to an area with newer school.March 13, 2012 at 11:05 AM #739817sdrealtor
ParticipantIts probably a combination of a bunch of things. People flocking to the neighborhood, interdistrict transfer and the school just working through the first couple years fo growing pains. Its kinda like eating at a new restaurant on opening night. Its never right and takes time to get everything in place.
